Gaginang Staff 2012

The 2012 staff are from all over the US: Northern California, Southern California, Seattle, and Colorado.  This year's staff will operate similarly to how it opperated last year.  Each staff member will be working on a few projects or events they signed up for at the 2012 GGN Staff Retreat that was held in Union City, CA.  We are refocusing our efforts to produce content and events for our members.  Some projects include:

  • Continuing work on the audio dictionary
  • GGN Western Culture and Language Retreat 2012
  • Teochew Know? - A blog by our former GGN president
  • Teochew Family Day
  • GGN Quarterly Socials

GAGINANG STAFF

Tek Hong | 洪安德 | Southern California

Tek was born in Vietnam. He arrived in Philadelphia in the 90s. Due to the cold weather, he only stayed in Philadelphia for six months, then moved to California and now resides in the San Gabriel Valley. He graduated California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, also known as Cal Poly Pomona, with a bachelor in Marketing . He is glad to find out about Gaginang and looks forward to contributing to the organization. He wants to promote and bring Teochew culture awareness to the younger Teochew generation.

 

Liz Lam | 林美华 | Seattle

Liz was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She is currently a junior at the University of Washington, and is working toward a degree in Chemical Engineering. She is also the founder and current president of the University of Washington Teochew Association. Her goal is to establish a strong sense of Teochew community and awareness in the Pacific Northwest. Liz is extremely excited to meet fellow Teochew nang, and wants to help spread Teochew culture through Gaginang and the UW TCA. In her free time, Liz enjoys playing tennis, being a pool shark, exploring the outdoors, traveling and eating.

 

Ty Lim | 林恩智 Līm Eung Dĭ | Northern California

Ty was born in Thailand and grew up in New York City. He graduated from Hunter College with a BA in Anthropology and from San Francisco State University with a MA in Education. He's working on some awesome projects for Gaginang this year. He's currently an Instructional Designer living in San Francisco.                 

 

Susan Ly | 李秀珊 | Lĭ Siŭ Sang | Northern California

Susan was born and raised in San Francisco, California. She attended the University of California, Riverside, where she received her B.A. in Liberal Studies, with an emphasis in Psychology, and minors in Education and Chinese. Susan also completed her graduate work at UC Riverside, earning a Masters in Education, a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and a Gifted and Talented Education Certificate. As a college student, Susan was a member of multiple service organizations, including Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. In addition, she helped the community as a participant of UC Riverside’s Honors Program, Golden Key International Honour Society, and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society. Currently, she is a 5th grade teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area. With education as her priority, Susan hopes that through Gaginang, she is able to teach and educate fellow Teochew people about the Teochew culture and language. Susan is very excited to be part of the Gaginang board this year, as she wants to help the organization grow to reach Teochew people worldwide. 

JC Sheu | 徐国南 | Seattle

jc_sheuJC was born in Cambodia but raised in Seattle, Washington. He currently runs his own business as a Notary Signing Agent, Real Estate Broker, and Mortgage Loan Originator. JC has been an active member of Gaginang since 2006 and looks forward to helping GGN breathe some life back into the GGN forums.

 

Ping Taing | 陳小萍 | Dāng Siào Pēng | Northern California

Born in New York City, Ping grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a BS in Computer Science and a minor in Chinese.  While at Tech, she was a co-founder of the Hong Kong Student Association and was involved in several other organizations on campus.  She currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area and considers Gaginang her family away from home.  Ping hopes that GGN will continue to expand thru promotion of Teochew culture and unification of Teochew's world-wide.  Her goal this year is to create programs and projects that promote Gaginang's mission statement.  Her other interests include traveling, eating, snowboarding and photography. 

 Celine Tan | Northern California

celine_tanCeline was born and raised in the Bay Area, California. She's currently working her way towards becoming a nurse. She's new to GGN, but is excited to help in any way she can.                                                                                                                                                                                              

 

Ed Tran | Northern California

Ed Tran was born and raise in the Bay Area. He's currently pursuing his Masters in Computer Engineering at SJSU. He's been a part of GGN since 2009, and been on staff since 2010, so he's still pretty new.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

 

Jeff Tran | Colorado

jeff_tranBorn in Denver, Colorado, Jeff is a recent graduate (May 2012) from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BA in Integrative Physiology and a minor in business. During college, Jeff was a senator for student government, coordinator of a pre-health organization, and helped establish an Asian interest fraternity, Pi Delta Psi, on his campus. Jeff is currently taking a year off while applying to pharmacy school. Jeff is excited to help this organization grow further and to spread awareness about Teochew language and culture.

 

Hank Tsang | Northern California

Hank was born in New York City, and grew up in New Jersey. He moved to Mountain View in 2006 to pursue an opportunity at a Silicon Valley startup. Currently, Hank is an IT contractor in the SF bay area. As part of GGN's conference planning team, Hank is excited to work with GGN's finest in making the 2011 conference awesome. In his spare time, Hank enjoys basketball, softball, eating junk food, and toys.
